Also known as “The Money Elevation Coach,” I am an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) with a B.A. in Business Administration, a Real Estate Broker, and a Real Estate Investor. I began investing in real estate after the 2008 recession. I purchased three rental properties with the intention of using two of them as a rental investment, and to flip (sell) the other house.
I paid only $12,000 for the house that I intended to flip. It had been neglected and destroyed, and it would cost twice that amount to make it habitable. After several low-ball offers, I decided to borrow an additional $23,000 to make the repairs which put me further into debt.
Fast forward 3 years… I was feeling accomplished, and feeling proud of myself. I’d paid off $35,000 in three years. Then, life happened (as it inevitably does) and I lost my job. The excitement of paying off the loan turned into fear. In an instant, I became an unemployed single parent whose income had been reduced by 80%.
Because of my inclination to live below my means, invest in rental property, and save for a rainy day (and oh, was it raining), I was able to sustain my family. This situation became a source of inspiration. It compelled me to open a financial coaching and consulting firm, FinCoach Consulting, where I help women gain control over their finances, reduce debt, and increase their net worth.
